Built for Real Farm Work
This kit is engineered for International Harvester’s 4-cylinder 164 CID distillate engines that powered many of the classic IH tractors from the era when distillate fuel was a cost-effective alternative to gasoline. These engines were workhorses on farms across the country, running everything from cultivating and planting to belt-driven equipment like threshers and balers.
Made to Last
Tru-Power has been building engine kits for decades and knows what it takes to handle the unique demands of distillate engines. The stepped-head pistons are designed to work with the different combustion characteristics of distillate fuel, while the valve components are built to handle the heat and deposits that come with this fuel type.
Good to Know
This is a complete overhaul kit minus the bearings—you’ll need to order those separately based on your crankshaft condition. Plan on having your block and head checked for cracks and warpage before assembly. If you’re not familiar with distillate engine rebuilds, consider having a shop that knows these old engines handle the work—they have their quirks compared to modern gas engines.
